            Writing is one of the oldest forms of communication that has existed since the beginning of time, laying the foundation for most of our culture. From the ages of the cavemen, to the renaissance, to the now, writing has been used to entertain, inform, and persuade amongst many other uses. Religion, one of the most predominant factors in our culture is founded on the beliefs of various written books and transcribed symbols and messages left by those who came before us coming together to create civilizations and culture, bringing us to where we are today. When most people think of writing now, the first thing that comes to mind is books. However, everything we rely has a reliability on writing. Take technology for instance, computers and phones would be not be able to function should their programmer-written code be stripped away. The many films and television shows we watch and enjoy every day are all products of a writer whittling away their time and efforts in order to create a script. Remixes are methods used by many artists to create something new from something that has already existed and are usually given the implication of being rip offs. However when we look at popular songs, a vast majority of them rely on samples and beats taken from older songs. I find the double standard between music and writing to be interesting, as they are essentially both doing the same thing. I am looking forward to what I will learn from this class, because it seems like a more modern and interesting take on the English subject, or in another words, a remix.
