Blog 2: Genealogy ideas

My first idea for the genealogy paper would be NIKE. My semiotic unit for this paper would be the NIKE swoosh. My goal is to show you how it has transformed over time. Setting up my paper I would start with where NIKE originated from and how it has gotten to where it is today. NIKE was a Greek Goddess or known as the winged goddess of Victory. The NIKE swoosh was created to represent the wing of the Greek Goddess NIKE. But the company of NIKE started out of the back of Phil Knight’s car distributing one single outfit. It evolved from two sources: Bill Bowerman and his search for lighter shoes for his runners and Phil Knight’s drive to make a living without throwing away his love for athletics. Then the NIKE swoosh was created because Phil Knight asked Caroline Davidson to design a logo for his company. From then on the company of NIKE just exploded.
My second idea would be that of Microsoft. Again, I would start off from where it originated from and build up to what it is today. It started between two childhood friends; Bill Gates and Paul Allen seeking to make success on their skills combined. After working together to create their first program, they split and went their separate ways later on reuniting and creating Microsoft. From there, Microsoft expanded to different programs such as Windows, Office and Excel.

My third idea would be Ford. Henry Ford’s first attempt with an automobile company was Henry Ford Company, which later became The Cadillac Motor Company. It started off small with only a few men working on each car and only building a few cars a day and evolved into the world’s largest and most profitable companies.
