   The reading was rather boring but several things stuck out to me that was quite peculiar. Assemblages are built from existing texts that are then interpreted into different culture or languages. It is similar to a remix in many ways. The way Johnson-Eilola and Selber define Assemblage is “texts built primarily and explicitly from existing texts in order to solve a writing or communication problem in a new context." This in my opinion is almost the same as a remix as the definition of a remix is taking an existing work i.e. a song and reworking it changing several parts in it and altering it to create something new. 
  There is a very fine line between originality and plagiarism. Plagiarism is copying someone's idea or work without giving the credit or properly giving them credit. I found it surprising how teachers cared more about students citing a work properly rather than the ideas or direction they were taking it. I'm assume this helps to put the students in a mindset where they will not commit plagiarism. Originality is simply taking ideas from multiple sources or works and combining them and creating a whole new idea or product. Although this isn't exactly original it's creating a new idea and you still have to cite your sources, it's the way the teachers wish for their students to follow suit.
   Assemblage is quite confusing to me at first as I didn't understand the wording at first but it soon cleared up as I continued reading. Also the importance of citing your sources was stressed once again throughout the reading.
