Johnson-Eilola and Selber’s concept of assemblage relates to remix in multiple ways. Assemblage can be seen as a combination of ideas and thoughts, such as, taking things and putting them together to form something new. This is in relation to a remix, since you can take bits of an idea that someone else created and use it to create a new idea/creation. I feel as if using someone else's work can only be called plagiarism to a certain extent. Our whole lives we have been influenced by other people's ideas around us. The reason our world is the way it is now is because of our ancestors and people in the pasts ideas. Thus, these ideas lead us to create and invent bigger and better ideas. We assemble these past ideas to create a new thing which in one's eyes can be called a remix. We draw the line between plagiarism and originality when it is noticeably the same exact idea or altered in the slightest bit of way where it doesn't reflect the work of the new creator. Plagiarism can't be defined as a single concept. It is looked at differently depending on the piece of work and whom you are talking too. This article was pretty straight forward to me and a good read. It really emphasized the way I look at originality, plagiarism, remixes, and assemblage. It tied it all together for me and made me draw conclusions for me to discover my own definitions for these words and to get a better understanding.
