Blog post 4

In the excerpts assigned, Richard writes to explain the purpose of words and their meanings. Words are used to translate thoughts and ideas from one source to another in the form of a physical document. When a sentence is written, each word is used to convey a specific meaning, regardless of the words that surround it.
Richards also comments on the concept of context. There are many factors that contribute to writing a text that include where you sit to write it, to which documents you chose to read during the research process. For example, say a letter is written to a government official requesting progressive steps to fix a road near a school zone. The letter can take many forms. Maybe this person had a bad day so far and also has had bad experiences dealing with government authority. It would be safe to assume that the words use, in the context is was written, hold strong meaning and give off a tone of frustration.
How does this tie into the idea of remix? Words and phrases can be taken and transformed to mean something that was not intended originally. Authors have, many times, used the language of people who came before them, adding their unique touches, to explain current issues. Everything today is a remix. Looking at past ideas or theories with a new perspective can also be considered remixing. Although the concept is something that we have seen before, the way in which it is presented can bring a new light to the subject, giving it a spin that was thought of at first.
