blog post 4

In Richards article he talks about how technically words don’t mean anything that what makes the word have meaning is what each individual associates the words with.  I think when he is talking about the right or wrong use of a word or a better or worse word to use he is underlying that in schools teachers pick apart kids writing and mark all the words that need to be changed but in reality only the author of a work can choose the words because to them every word has a slightly different meaning or “context”. Also when Richards talks about how words in a technical way don’t when anything they are just symbols that we have been taught to associate with each thing very much underlies why people see things differently. He uses the word dog as an example that we have come to associate the word dog with the actually being but they really have no connection. I have always thought about why we call things what we do. Like way do we call trees trees and cars cars. If for the last 400 years people called what we know as trees today horses and what we know as cars today lamps. We could live on and there would be no problem because the word and the being have no connection just what we have grown to learn that they are described by a word. This relates to remixes in the way that each word could have a slightly different context to each person because they base what they now off past experiences so by gathering memories and things from the past to build the meaning of a word in ones mind the word becomes something of a remix or assemblage.
