Multimodality is when there are different modes used to give information on any type of media. Modes can be in the form of pictures, words, and many other things, and they are used to convey information. By using different modes in one text, certain information can be delivered. In the Kress Video, they talked about using two modes, a picture and words, right next to each other on top of an article. These two work in a pair because the words get you to focus on the intended meaning of the picture that is there. Multimodality is a good thing to use because it gives keeps the person looking at the information interested. If reading a long article, pages and pages of words would bore the reader, however, if there are pictures included then it will give his eyes the needed break from staring at words on a boring screen.
Kress and Wysocki’s views are somewhat different. Kress talks about how people use mulitmodality and how it is used in a specific manner, while Wysocki believes that things should be changed here and there in order to experiment with new things/ideas. Kress thinks that, unlike Wysocki, if the way things have been done is changed, it will leave a person confused and there would be a possibility of the person loosing interest because of this. Kress also says that a color scheme is needed because a wide variety in random colors can cause confusion, and Wysocki talks about how a paper was written with crayons and colored paper. In conclusion, Kress thinks that things should stay the way they are and Wysocki thinks there should be experimenting to change things from the way they are now.
