Blog #6

multi-modality is a form of expression or communication to get one's point across through the use of several different modes. An example of this would be a website. A website contains multiple modes such as images, sounds, videos, text, structure etc that all help to convey a point across and are working together. Modes are single structure like a text or a picture that conveys a point across. An example of this would be the modes of writing. Expository which would be giving information, explaining. Imaginary would be made-up or creativity, persuasive would be trying to convince or persuade the reader to adopt your point of view, and narrative would be y personal experience, retelling an experience that had happened. Kress seemed to stress in the video about placement and how the reader would interpret such placement. In the video he said how the left side as more dominant/bigger which drew to the reader's attention more while the write side was smaller/less dominant as it had less relevant information. He wanted the author to give each image etc a specific place to put and a reason why, not just to place it wherever one was pleased with. It had to make sense with the audience, or else it wouldn't seem right or catch our attention. Wysocki agrees with this in a certain way as he stresses about time. Which part of your work would you be presenting first to the audience and what part the would see, not expect to see.Space also is mentioned in Wysocki writing the context nd purpose of a mode is all the difference it needs. The example used was water, as one does not expect water to hurt anyone but it was used against protestors during the time of oppression of blacks. The used pressurized hoses that turned them into a harmful projectile. The way in which a mode is intepreted and used for communication depends on the context, purpose, and the audience.
